placemaking in Savage

How do you want the City of Savage to look and feel in the future?

The City of Savage has contracted with the Musicant Group to evaluate placemaking options in Savage. Placemaking, when done correctly, serves to better connect people to the places where they live, work, and play. It can range from redesigning a public space, introducing public art, or making people aware of the history around them. To do this correctly, we need your input. How do you use public space in Savage? Where do you gather? How would you like the City to look in the future?

Pretend I am a new resident in Savage. Tell me what you love about this city. Where should I go? What is there to do around here?

Thank you for sharing your ideas with us.

    More Dining and Entertainment Options

by rhammett, over 2 years ago
We love living in Savage, but we find that we always leave Savage for other suburbs to go out to eat or for entertainment. It feels like we have become very focused on being a small residential, sports-focused town. Our last two large development approvals show this to be the reality - more senior living and more ball fields. As a young family that does not spend much time on sports-related activities, where can we go for entertainment? We extensively utilize Community Park (love the pickleball addition and can't wait for the playground to finally be rebuilt). I think Hyvee... Continue reading

I like the City of Savage and I think the Mayor and City Council are open to citizen feedback and suggestions. I appreciate the many walking trails available.

One area of potential improvement could be having a site for crafters to explore or maintain their hobby. With so many residents downsizing to a smaller housing unit the owner/renter no longer has a place to continue there artistic passion. Whether it be painting, weaving, card making, etc., storage and room is at a premium in most housing areas-- apartments, assisted living units, retirement units, etc. It would be nice to have... Affordable Housing

by Grandma Johnson, over 2 years ago

My husband and I will be searching for affordable housing for seniors. It appears that most of our senior community moved here to be near family. We bought a home 13 years ago to accommodate our grandchildren and pets. Now, the grandchildren are teens and the pets are gone. We do not need or desire assisted living - who can afford this I don't know! If you have options, I would like to hear about them as we would prefer to remain close to family. Needs to be single story, two garage and some green space. It would be so... Continue reading

    Community Center

by Grandma Johnson, over 2 years ago

What is there to do in Savage? Good question. Other than sports (dome and fields), very little. I have been asking for a community center since I moved here from Wisconsin 13 years ago. It needs to include a pool, space for gatherings (parties, wedding receptions), a real senior center to include more than playing cards - a kitchen for baking, cooking - food drives, a gym, a play center for children - so many spots for people to gather and really become part of the community. We go outside of Savage/Prior Lake for just about everything.

    A mighty little city

by Carrie, over 2 years ago

There are many hidden gems in the city of Savage. I'd love to highlight them through a connected path system, signs in parks with info. on unique offerings at other parks in the city (ie. pickleball, archery, horseback riding, horseshoes, ice skating, cross country skiing). Give people access to the Fenn area by building a bird watching boardwalk. Give people access to the Minnesota River by rebuilding the old railroad bridge over the river and clean up the trail. Move the Farmers Market and encourage a variety of vendors to participate beyond veggies and plants - add music, food trucks... Continue reading

Three Rivers and Connected Trail System

by Sean OMalley, over 2 years ago

We live in a community with easy access to parks and recreational areas. Invest in creating a connected corridor both for snowmobile use in winter months, and biking, hiking. Prior Lake, MN River, Murphy-Hanrahan, Community Park, Hidden Valley, etc. . .provide connected access to neighboring communities as well, Burnsville, Lakeville, Credit River, Prior Lake, Shakopee.

    Beautify - Lights, plants, etc!

by Marigold, over 2 years ago

I am really proud of Savage's willingness of the community leaders and members to hold open talks on race, racism, and the REDI Task Force. As our community continues to diversify, I hope placemaking plans include acknowledgement of our uniqueness via Accessibility and cultural considerations/celebrations instead of emphasis on our white history.

Nothing is more beautiful than the Heart of the City in Burnsville on a cold, winter night. I would be so proud if we could create that look in the heart of our economic center for Savage: along Egan Drive. I know our downtown is near highway 13... Continue reading

Of course I am extremely biased, but I think you should hire my husband, Greg Preslicka, to do a community mural somewhere in the city! He does great work and has done two community murals in downtown Prior Lake!
