More Dining and Entertainment Options
We love living in Savage, but we find that we always leave Savage for other suburbs to go out to eat or for entertainment. It feels like we have become very focused on being a small residential, sports-focused town. Our last two large development approvals show this to be the reality - more senior living and more ball fields. As a young family that does not spend much time on sports-related activities, where can we go for entertainment? We extensively utilize Community Park (love the pickleball addition and can't wait for the playground to finally be rebuilt). I think Hyvee has been a great addition to our town because it added variety of options. But when non-Savage residents talk about Savage, they talk about 3 things: Target, Hyvee, or the dome. Aren't there other options we could be exploring to bring people into our community and have people in Savage want to stay in their town to spend their time and money? I truly hope that the remaining parcels for development north of McColl near City Hall are considered for mixed use, creating a nice walkable area with shops and restaurants and entertainment. I picture something like the Pinstripes / Centennial Lakes development or the Southwest Transit area in Eden Prairie, but overlooking the Minnesota River valley from the bluffs. And we at least need a local donut and ice cream shop! That would make Savage a place we would want to stay on a Friday or Saturday night instead of driving to Burnsville or Eden Prairie.
