Placemaking in Savage

How do you want the City of Savage to look and feel in the future?
The City of Savage has contracted with the Musicant Group to evaluate placemaking options in Savage. Placemaking, when done correctly, serves to better connect people to the places where they live, work, and play. It can range from redesigning a public space, introducing public art, or making people aware of the history around them. To do this correctly, we need your input. How do you use public space in Savage? Where do you gather? How would you like the City to look in the future?

Pretend I am a new resident in Savage. Tell me what you love about this city. Where should I go? What is there to do around here?
Thank you for sharing your ideas with us.

Beautify Our City
by Jen, about 3 years agoFirst of all, I would like to say how lovely I think the new monument signage looks around our city and I appreciate the updates in modernizing our curb appeal. In addition, I would LOVE to see more parks in our area - or least update the current playgrounds with better equipment and perhaps a splash pad. I also REALLY like the playgrounds that have the poured in rubber surfaces instead of wood chips, pebbles, sand, etc... so that would be super nice to have as well. Other than that, a community center would be AMAZING, along with more walking/biking... Continue reading

Please invest in public, family gathering spaces
by Jason, about 3 years agoAfter living here for a year it has dawned on us how few public amenities there are, and we're always going elsewhere to find family oriented events, public gathering spaces, playgrounds, etc... Prior Lake, Burnsville, Eagan, Eden Prairie, Bloomington. Savage appears not to have prioritized investment in public spaces and we wish it would increase its investment substantially to better align with amenities in other municipalities.

Stop waisting my tax dollars.
by Barry and Rita, about 3 years agoThe new "sculptures" on 42 by water tower and the one near city hall represent a complete disregard for out tax money. These are un-needed and a total waste of money. What purpose do they serve? Instead of tax levy increases, do like we have to and stop spending money on junk.BP

by Anon, about 3 years agoI think we should not spend our tax dollars on something like this and put it towards something useful like schools, police, fire, and parks for children. Also could allocate some to road maintenance so homeowners do not have to pay $3800 for road repair that was unneccessary during a pandemic where unemployment is at an all time high. Unnecessary expenses such as these assessments force people like my family to move from this expensive city. Do not waste money on this

Places where people can be together with friends and family
by Leehd, about 3 years agoI don’t really understand placemaking… the descriptions here are vague and confusing. But I do think as a city we need places the community can enjoy together, such as Nicollet Commons in Burnsville. It’s a shame we have nothing like this here.

Limited public gathering places in Savage
by Brooke, about 3 years agoI gather in my neighborhood. There are very few green spaces in Savage. We need more trails, parks and public spaces. Housing is rapidly growing, but not enough investment in parks and public places. We are supposed to be getting a playground in our neighborhood, but the space is very small. It is sad to see where the priorities are. We are often traveling outside of Savage for outdoor recreation.
