At the January 8, 2024 Council Work Session, council members discussed the recruitment process and the values and priorities they have for the Police Chief position.

The recruitment period opened on February 7, 2024 and closes for applications on February 27, 2024.

February 08 → February 25 2024

Community Engagement

Residents can provide their input and share their priorities for the next chief now through February 25, 2024.

Panel Interviews

Candidates will undergo a series of panel interviews that include residents, key stakeholders, and City officials:  

  1. Community Interview Panel made up of Commission Members
    1. Host - HR Manager
    2. Interview Panel – 1 member of CEC, EDC, PRNRC, and PC
    3. Councilmember – Matt Johnson
    4. Role – Understand how the candidates plan to interact with the community and their stance on social issues.   
  2. Police Interview Panel
    1. Host - Assistant City Administrator
    2. Interview Panel – Records Supervisor, Captain, Patrol Union Steward, Sgt Union Steward
    3. Councilmember – Bob Coughlen
    4. Role – Know candidates’ thoughts on police work, experience, and future.   
  3. Leadership Team Interview Panel
    1. Host – City Administrator
    2. Panel – Community Development Director, City Engineer/Utilities Director, Public Works Director, Communications Manager
    3. City Councilmember – Christine Kelly
    4. Role – Understand the candidate’s philosophy on leadership, policing, and cross-department cooperation.
