This project is no longer seeking public input. Check back to Let's Talk Savage for results and next steps.

Let's talk trash! Specifically where to store your trash and recycling containers. The current ordinance was put in place in 2012 and states, "Trash and/or recycling bins must be located out of public view except on collection day." The phrase “out of the public view” can be interpreted in many ways. Does it mean not visible from the public street? Or perhaps, not visible from a neighboring property?

Recently we collected data from over 2,0000 residential properties, in 19 different neighborhoods, from all areas of the City on where residents are currently storing their refuse containers. We found that over half of the properties had containers in public view from the street and would be in violation of the current ordinance.

So, the City is reviewing the ordinance to determine if it needs to be changed or just made more clear. But before any changes are made, we want to hear your opinions and ideas on where you want trash and recycling bins stored.

If so, should the City require specific standards (types of materials, height, color, etc.) for the screening?
