The City of Savage is building a new park in the Creek Hill neighborhood in south Savage, and residents are invited to help name it!
The Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Commission (PRNRC) is seeking name suggestions for this new park at the southeast corner of 156th and Hampshire Ave. The park will have playground equipment, a picnic shelter, a walking path, and open green space. The property also has existing apple trees along Hampshire Ave. that will be preserved and will be a unique feature of the park.
Under the City's naming policy, the following criteria will be considered when selecting a name for a park site:
Memorial names should be based on individuals with local or national prominence and who have made significant contributions in a field of endeavor.
Historical names should be based on local historical significance regarding property ownership, i.e. pioneering families who owned the property where the park is to be for more than 100 years.
Geographic names should be based on the neighborhood or subdivision where the park is located or the geographic area which it is intended to serve.
City staff will compile the list of suggestions and ensure they meet the naming policy criteria. Then, the PRNRC will recommend a new park name to the City Council in July. A grand opening celebration will be planned for late fall or early next spring.
This park project is funded through fees collected during developments from throughout the city called Park Dedication Fees. No assessments to properties are needed to fund this project.
