The City of Savage is seeking funding for expanding Quentin Ave. and reconstructing two CIty-owned railroad bridges that pass over Quentin.

Rationale

  • This is a unique issue that began in 1941 when the bridge over Quentin Ave. was built as a single-lane stop sign pass-through with a height clearance of 10'6".
  • The bridge does not meet the current minimum 14'6" clearance standard and constricts traffic flow for a major connection road. Certain trucks, such as emergency vehicles like fire trucks, cannot pass through.
  • Since both bridges are on the same rail line, if you replace one and raise the portion of the other track over Quentin Ave., the other bridge would also have to be replaced and raised.
  • This project needs to be completed before MNDOT improves the intersection at Highway 13 and Quentin Ave.
  • The City of Savage bought these bridges in 2008 to facilitate the future improvements of Quentin Ave.

Benefits to the region

  • A local roadway study forecasted Quentin Ave. as the main connection between County Road 16 and Highway 13.
  • When improvements are complete on TH13, Quentin Ave. will serve regional needs for those accessing US- 169 and I-35 via TH13.
