Downtown Redevelopment Vision

Effective August 1, 2019, Minnesota cities have the authority to set speed limits on streets they control. We know speeding is a common concern of residents, so the City is taking this opportunity to review existing speed limits on local collector streets to provide safe travel for all modes of mobility. The current speed limit on local residential streets is set at 30 mph, however, the speed limit on collector streets is inconsistent.What is a collector street? Roads are classified based on their function and purpose. A collector street is a road that &quot;collects&quot; traffic from residential streets and connects to higher-capacity roads like highways and county roads. Collector Street Speed Limit Evaluation

<h3>Gallery Savage Apartments&nbsp;</h3><div class="OutlineElement Ltr SCXW121220076 BCX8">Chase Reality is proposing a 105-unit apartment building with underground parking on the idle property&nbsp;located&nbsp;at the southeast corner of 154th&nbsp;St. and Dakota Ave. This project would involve the removal of an existing home, reconstruction of a&nbsp;portion&nbsp;of Dakota Ave. south of 154th&nbsp;St., and full landscaping. The building would be three stories in height and&nbsp;located&nbsp;roughly 60&nbsp;to 88 feet from the 154th&nbsp;St. right-of-way and 119 feet from the Dakota Ave. right-of-way. INPUT OPPORTUNITY #2: Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) Survey
What is an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU)?
Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are self-contained living units that typically include a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom(s) on the same property as the main residence. There are many types of ADUs, and they are often referred to as secondary suites, granny flats, guest houses, etc. An ADU must be attached to a permanent foundation. Mobile homes, RVs, campers, and trailers are not considered ADUs.

Why is the City looking at ADUs?
ADUs have been around for centuries, but they have regained public appeal as an adaptable and potentially affordable housing option. Our current zoning code does not allow for the construction of ADUs. This topic is being explored as part of the update to the zoning and subdivision code. One option would be to permit ADUs on residential properties that meet certain criteria with performance standards.

City of Savage Zoning and Code Update 

The City Council is interested in considering options for allowing short-term rentals such as Airbnb and VRBO. They are also exploring the possibility of licensing short-term rentals. Currently, homeowners are prohibited from renting out their home or a portion of their home for a period of fewer than 15 days. As part of the analysis, the City Council and staff would like to hear from the residents of Savage. Please take our short survey consisting of only 4 questions to share your opinions.

Short-Term Rental Community Survey

The proposed project is located at 5450 126 St. and requires a public hearing to combine two properties (PID 269160570 and PID 269160020) into one property, as required in Section 151.07 and 151.08 of the Savage Zoning Code. The two properties are two existing industrial properties that function as one property currently and no other changes or modifications are being proposed at this time. The two existing properties are also legally described in the public hearing notice.

Weber Addition

The City is proposing a street improvement project for South Park Drive from Highway 13 to County Road 27 in 2025. An Open House regarding the proposed improvements for South Park Drive was held on August 7, 2024. Please complete the survey below.
